Each event listing includes a direct link to the organiser's registration page.

Question 2

Can I ride the flagship gravel race as a first-timer?

Accepted Answer

Many flagship events welcome riders of all levels, often offering shorter route options for newcomers.

Question 3

When is the best time of year to ride gravel in the US?

Accepted Answer

The primary season for gravel riding in the United States runs from late spring through early autumn. In northern states, June through September offers the most stable weather, while southern and desert regions like Arizona or Texas are best visited during the winter and early spring to avoid extreme heat. Large-scale events are most concentrated between May and October.

Question 4

What is the most famous gravel race in the United States?

Accepted Answer

Unbound Gravel, held annually in Emporia, Kansas, is widely considered the premier event in the sport. The race takes riders through the rolling Flint Hills, a region known for its sharp flint rock and exposed, windy terrain. It attracts thousands of participants from around the world across various distances, including the flagship 200-mile course.

Question 5

What should international riders expect regarding terrain and difficulty in the US?

Accepted Answer

Visiting riders should expect a vast range of terrain, from the high-altitude mountain passes of the Rockies to the red clay roads of the Southeast. Many iconic routes are located in remote areas with limited cell service and long distances between services. It is essential to carry sufficient water, navigation tools, and repair kits, as weather conditions can change rapidly in the backcountry.

Question 6

How do international cyclists handle bike rentals and logistics in the United States?

Accepted Answer

While major cities have high-quality bike shops, dedicated gravel bike rentals can be difficult to find outside of major cycling hubs like Bentonville, Arkansas, or Boulder, Colorado. Many international riders choose to travel with their own bikes using professional shipping services or hard-shell bike cases. Renting a vehicle is often necessary to reach trailheads and event starts, as public transit rarely services rural gravel regions.
