The Giants of Norway Rally is a self-supported bikepacking adventure set to depart from Alvdal in the summer of 2027. This is not a race in the traditional sense, but a test of strategy, endurance, and self-reliance across some of the country’s most significant landscapes. With a route length of 450 to 550 kilometres, riders are invited to chart their own course between a series of mandatory checkpoints, making choices that will define their personal journey through the mountains.

The route is a mix of approximately 60% gravel and 40% asphalt, guiding riders from the start in Alvdal to the finish in Vinstra. The core of this bikepacking adventure in Norway lies in its unique format. While a series of mandatory checkpoints forms the backbone of the rally, riders can choose to tackle optional ‘Giant’ checkpoints—steep, high-elevation climbs—to earn bonus points. This blend of compulsory and optional sections allows each participant to tailor the challenge to their own ambition and style.

The scoring system reflects the event's emphasis on personal strategy over pure speed. A final score is calculated based on the total points accumulated from checkpoints divided by the total elapsed time, which runs continuously from start to finish. There are no official prizes; instead, finishers earn a place in the Hall of Fame. This approach encourages a more contemplative and strategic experience, where the line between racing and touring becomes beautifully blurred amidst the quiet landscapes of the Norwegian interior.

With between 7,000 and 12,000 metres of elevation gain, the terrain is demanding. Riders will navigate through deep valleys and over high mountain passes, with notable checkpoints at Sognefjellshytta and the optional, formidable climb to Juvasshytta at 1841 metres. The freedom to choose one's own path between these points is central to the rally, with options including ferry crossings that introduce an element of chance and tactical decision-making. This format makes it a standout among other other gravel events in Norway.

The spirit of the rally is one of quiet adventure and community, underscored by its support for World Bicycle Relief. While participation is free, riders are encouraged to contribute to a fundraiser, connecting their personal challenge to a global cause.
