ZIG ZAG Gravel – München, Germany

The ZIG ZAG Gravel event is a three-day gravel adventure in Germany that guides riders from the city of Munich to the foothills of the Alps and back. Striking a unique balance between exploration and support, it offers a journey into the quiet landscapes of the Alpenvorland. Held across three separate weekends in the summer, the event maintains an intimate, small-group feel, allowing the focus to remain on the rhythm of the ride and the surrounding Bavarian scenery.
Each day presents a choice, a core concept of the event’s design. Riders can select the 'ZIG' route for a more relaxed and scenic gravel experience, or opt for the 'ZAG' route, which introduces more kilometres and elevation for those seeking a greater physical challenge. This thoughtful format provides flexibility, even allowing riders to switch between the two during the day, tailoring the adventure to their own pace and energy levels.
The journey is structured as a "soft-supported" tour. This means luggage is transported between the overnight locations each day, freeing riders to travel light and unencumbered. With the logistics of baggage, two nights of accommodation, and pre- and post-ride sustenance all taken care of, participants can fully immerse themselves in the riding experience. The focus shifts from logistics to the simple pleasure of pedalling through new terrain.
The atmosphere is welcoming and designed for connection, whether you arrive as a solo rider, a couple, or a small group of friends. One weekend in July is designated as a female-only event, fostering an inclusive space for women to share the adventure. The region is rich with riding opportunities, and this event provides a perfect entry point to explore them, much like many other gravel events in Germany that celebrate the country's diverse landscapes.
Setting out from Munich, the route unfolds into the rolling terrain that characterises the pre-alpine landscape. The sound of gravel under tyres replaces the city's hum as the stages progress south towards the looming silhouette of the mountains. This thoughtful route design allows for a gradual immersion into a more rugged, natural environment, making this gravel adventure in Germany as much a mental journey as a physical one.
With events scheduled for July, August, and September 2026, there are multiple opportunities to experience the ZIG ZAG spirit. The format is built for those who appreciate discovery over racing, offering a well-organised yet free-spirited weekend on the bike. Everything is prepared to ensure a memorable and seamless experience from start to finish.
The essence of the ZIG ZAG weekend is about finding your own pace and path through the stunning scenery of the Alpine foothills. It is an invitation to explore, to be challenged, and to connect with a community of fellow riders.
