The Hellenic Mountain Race is an unsupported, single-stage bikepacking race in Greece, tracing a fixed route through the country’s lesser-known northern and western mountain ranges. This is not a journey through the familiar islands and beaches, but an exploration of the wild, remote Pindus Mountains. The event invites riders to discover a different side of the country, defined by steep, forested slopes, ancient stone pathways, and the quiet rhythm of gravel roads winding through a landscape rich with character.

For its fourth edition, the race charts a demanding 922-kilometre course with approximately 27,831 metres of climbing. The parcours begins in the picturesque stone village of Agios Athanasios, west of Thessaloniki, and travels south to the fortified Venetian port town of Nafpaktos on the Gulf of Corinth. The route is a mix of surfaces, from smooth tarmac to rugged gravel and historic cobbled tracks, with some sections of hike-a-bike to be expected. This bikepacking race in Greece is a serious undertaking in a remote environment.

The clock runs continuously from start to finish, with no stages and no prizes. Riders must navigate the route and manage their own efforts, including finding food and lodging. There can be significant distances between resupply points. Participants validate their passage at three checkpoints—Smolikas, Melissourgi, and Karpenisi—before the final push over the Diaselo Kaliakoudas pass and the descent into Nafpaktos.
