This route is an 8 day, fully supported gravel bikepacking expedition through the Araucanía Region of southern Chile. With an experienced guide riding alongside you and a support vehicle handling luggage and logistics, we take care of everything from the bicycle and helmet to accommodations and all meals, so you can focus on the experience. The route follows quiet gravel roads through a part of Chile that few travelers ever see. Over six days of riding, you'll travel through four national reserves (Malalcahuello, Nalcas, China Muerta, and Villarrica) crossing landscapes shaped by volcanoes, ancient lava flows, glacial valleys, and forests of Araucaria trees, some more than 2,000 years old. The journey circles the slopes of Lonquimay Volcano, descends across historic lava flows, and winds through remote valleys and small mountain communities. Along the way, you'll spend an afternoon with the Mapuche community of Quinquén, sharing a traditional meal, conversation, and a guided walk through the Araucaria forests that have sustained generations of their people. Most of the riding is on gravel and dirt roads, with occasional sections of loose volcanic sand and sustained climbs. Riders are welcome to tackle every kilometer or make use of the support vehicle whenever needed. Each night brings a different place to call home, from mountain lodges and family-run cabins to a stay with the Mapuche community and a remote riverside lodge with natural volcanic hot springs. The perfect way to spend eight unforgettable days in the Andes.
