- Location: Roxbury, Connecticut, United States
- Distances: 26 miles, 39 miles
- Event Type: Gravel Event
The Mine Hill Gravel Challenge invites riders to the quiet landscapes of Northwest Connecticut for a day exploring the unique character of its gravel roads. This event, set in the picturesque towns of Roxbury and Washington, offers a natural rhythm of effort and reward amidst rolling terrain.
Riders can choose between two distances, 26 or 39 miles, each journeying through the beautiful hills of the region. The course is built around a 13-mile loop, each segment featuring approximately 1,300 feet of climbing. This design ensures a steady engagement with the landscape, with ascents that offer a true test of spirit and descents that allow for a flowing connection with the gravel under tyres.
Strategically placed aid stations support riders throughout their journey. A primary aid station is situated roughly halfway through each loop, providing sustenance for the moving rider. Additionally, the unique setting of the Mine Hill Distillery in Roxbury serves as the start and finish point, offering a welcoming place for access to aid before each loop commences.
The atmosphere extends beyond the ride itself. Upon completing the challenge, riders are invited to gather at the Mine Hill Distillery. Here, the community can share experiences and engage with the local spirit. This gathering provides an opportunity to reflect on the day's ride, surrounded by the shared camaraderie of fellow gravel enthusiasts.
