The Balaton Gravel Derby is a self-guided and self-supported gravel challenge around Lake Balaton, Central Europe’s largest lake. The event starts and finishes in Badacsonytomaj, located on the north shore of the lake in a well-known Hungarian wine region. Participants can enter as a solo rider or as a pair.

The event offers two distance options. The longer 370 km route circumnavigates Lake Balaton and can be ridden in two formats: "Challenge," with a 42-hour time limit and GPS tracking for an official result, or "Adventure," which allows more than 42 hours to finish without a GPS tracker. The shorter "Explore" option is a 100 km solo-only ride through the hills and vineyards. The routes feature a mix of forest trails and lakeside cycle paths.

Based on previous editions, the 370 km route has approximately 3,700 to 4,000 meters of elevation, while the 100 km route has around 1,200 meters. The official route is finalized and shared with participants three weeks before the event.
