  • Date: 2026-09-20 to 2026-09-28
  • Location: Irun, Spain
  • Event Type: Bikepacking

Setting out in late September, the Iberica Traversa bikepacking adventure invites riders to traverse the Iberian Peninsula. From the Bay of Biscay in Irun to the southernmost tip of European mainland in Tarifa, this journey traces a diverse path through Spain.

This unsupported bike adventure offers two distinct routes: a 1723km gravel and trail option with 29,427vm of climbing, and an 1812km road route ascending 27,325vm, reaching its highest point at Pico Veleta. Both routes offer a profound exploration of the Spanish landscape.

The gravel route winds through varied topography, including the ancient megalithic tombs of the Gorafe Depression and canyons with ancient cave dwellings. Riders will encounter the raw beauty of the Bardenas Reales Desert, navigating its unique singletrack trails.

Passing through historic regions, the journey includes the ancient bridges of Ronda and follows trails used by pilgrims for centuries. The route offers glimpses of iconic landmarks like the Camino Del Rey and the majestic Alhambra complex, creating a rich tapestry of cultural and natural immersion.

Each pedal stroke across the diverse terrain of Spain tells a story, from the arid desert stretches to the rolling hills and historical pathways. The atmosphere is one of self-reliance and discovery, a direct engagement with the land and its stories. For those seeking other gravel events in the region, explore more routes in Spain.

The concept for Iberica Traversa emerged from a previous journey along a section of the NorthCape-Tarifa route, where the abundance of old railway tracks, disused buildings, and gravel roads sparked the idea for a dedicated gravel adventure. This reflection on the potential of the Iberian landscape led to the creation of this unique route.

This adventure is open to solo or pair riders, inviting participants to embrace the challenge with no time limit, focusing instead on the experience of the crossing. Riders can find further details and registration information on the official event website.
