Starting and finishing in the historic downtown of Two Harbors, the event offers a day of challenging riding and community atmosphere. Participants can choose from three distinct distances, each designed to showcase the rugged beauty of the region and provide a memorable day on the bike.

This year’s courses have been refined to include some of the best sectors from classic Heck of the North editions, promising a test of skill and endurance. The 100-mile route features 3400 feet of climbing, with a significant portion on unpaved roads. The shorter 50-mile and 20-mile options offer their own challenges, with 2000 and 800 feet of elevation gain respectively. This Minnesota gravel cycling classic is known for its mix of well-maintained gravel, two-track sectors, and even a stream crossing to keep things interesting.

Riders on the 100-mile journey will navigate key segments like the Briton Pit and Bear Pit sectors, along with the scenic King Lake two-track. The 50-mile course also takes on the King Lake Sector, providing a concentrated dose of the Heck experience. Across all routes, the surfaces are varied, with a gravel bike fitted with 40-50mm tires being the recommended tool for the job, though mountain bikes are also a common sight on these demanding tracks.

The day is about more than just the ride. A new tradition begins with the Heck Fest, a post-ride celebration held next to Castle Danger Brewery. The festival atmosphere will feature food trucks, drinks, and a special live performance from musician Charlie Parr.
