The driveway (Drivvejen)
Drivvejen is one of the oldest and, at the time, most important trade routes in Denmark.
It was primarily used to transport cattle and other valuable goods down to the large market places in Germany, Holland and Belgium.
To this day, you can still find traces of the past down the old trade route.
As a participant in this event, you experience the “real” Denmark. The driveway winds from Thyborøn to Tønder, down through some of the least populated areas we have here at home. Large forest areas, hot landscapes, tow ferries and wide open spaces are just some of what awaits you on this fantastic trip in the tracks of the cattle drivers.
The concept
The main distance of the race is 350km. The start is at sunrise in Thyborøn.
The main challenge is to reach Tønder before the sun sets again.
“From Dawn till Dusk”
There will also be a half distance of 175 km from Oksbøl to Tønder and a 100 km distance with start and finish in Tønder.
The race is run according to GPS and is more “Adventure” inspired. There will be several “checkpoints” along the way where all participants must check in continuously.
A week before the race, a GPX file with the route is sent – you yourself are responsible for downloading the file and finding your way via GPS.
The race is Unsupported at the Competition distance.
That is you have to be able to handle yourself all the way. We will help with a guide to where you can fill up with water, options for finding provisions, etc.
On the 350km route there will be a “Drop Zone” in Oksbøl. Here we bring a bag for you, which you can pack with whatever you may need approx. halfway through the trip.
If you drive in the Explorer class, there will be depots on the route with energy from our partners.
