Set against the surreal backdrop of Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni, La Ruta de los Pistoleros – Gravel Race is a three-stage adventure that fuses endurance, storytelling, and exploration. Inspired by the legendary escape of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the race invites riders to chase their own frontier across the vast white desert of the Andes. From October 23–27, 2026, participants will tackle over 230 kilometers (143 miles) of mixed terrain at more than 3,600 meters (11,800 feet) above sea level—where the horizon never ends and every kilometer feels like a discovery.
The event’s basecamp is the Luna Salada Hotel, a boutique lodge built entirely of salt blocks overlooking the shimmering expanse of the flats. Each day unveils a different face of the altiplano: the railway-side dust tracks of La Emboscada, the boundless white silence of La Gran Fuga, and the closing loop around the sacred Tunupa Volcano for El Último Refugio. The course blends compact gravel, wind-beaten salt, and technical desert paths, supported by local logistics, feed zones, and professional timing—yet it keeps the heart of self-reliant exploration alive.
What sets this event apart is its fusion of culture and landscape. Riders pass through mining relics, quinoa fields, and tiny Andean villages, sharing the road with llamas and the occasional shepherd. Afternoons bring high-altitude light that shifts from gold to violet, while evenings reveal one of the clearest night skies on Earth. It’s a sensory overload that reminds you why we ride: to connect with wild places and the stories they hold.
Beyond competition, La Ruta de los Pistoleros is an experience built for curiosity and camaraderie. Whether you’re chasing a result or simply chasing the horizon, expect a mix of challenge, beauty, and Bolivian hospitality that lingers long after the finish line. This isn’t just a race—it’s a journey across the desert of legends.
