Monumental is a self-supported gravel and bikepacking event, celebrating Belgium’s cycling monuments. The event is an epic adventure that brings together the thrill of gravel riding and Belgium’s rich cycling heritage. This self-supported bikepacking experience challenges riders to conquer legendary climbs, traverse iconic cobblestone roads, and explore scenic gravel trails through the heart of Belgium.
It’s first edition takes place in June: Saturday the 7th at 8 am, riders will start on their 300 or 700 km journey. On their way, they will tackle 3.500 or 10.000 hm, depending on the route they chose.
Starting and finishing in Heverlee, the route winds through historic landmarks like the Lion’s Mound, the Sonian Forest, the cobbled climbs of ‘De Ronde van Vlaanderen’ and the many hills from ‘Liège-Bastogne-Liège’. Both these cycling monuments are linked via as much off-road tracks as possible. Whether tackling the full Monumental Grand Tour or the shorter Flandrien Tour, you will discover the grit, beauty, and spirit of Belgian cycling culture. This is a journey for the bold—a celebration of endurance, nature, and the indomitable Flandrien spirit.
